Documentary / Press Photography
There is always going to be a huge cross-over between different styles or genres
of photography. For my own practice and to describe the way in which I work, I would
describe myself as a Freelance Photographer and Photographic Artist, who works in
a Documentary Style. Therefore my self-generated work reflects this mixture of documenting
the facts as they appear in front of the camera lens and mediating what can sometimes
be an austere image into something with a more artistic appeal. Obviously, when photographing
to a set criteria in a client’s brief, I am bound by those instructions. For instance,
when covering a demonstration in Newport against right-wing extremists for press
agencies, or when covering the World Enduro Championships for a French Magazine,
my camera and corresponding images need to reflect the true scene as it appears.
